A Longstanding Commitment to Community
My commitment to community service began long before I decided to run for Regional Councillor.
2000–2002 — General Secretary, Community Centre, Mississauga
I was elected General Secretary of a non-profit community organization operating a community centre in Mississauga. During my term, I worked with a dedicated volunteer team and helped manage the centre’s day-to-day community activities, including:
-
Leading and coordinating volunteers
-
Managing budgets and monitoring expenses
-
Coordinating community donations
-
Supporting the operation of the community centre
-
Working with community members to address their needs
2013–2014 — General Secretary & Community Volunteer
In 2013, community members who remembered my previous service asked me to volunteer again to help operate the same community centre.
I returned to serve the community, leading volunteers, helping collect and manage donations, monitoring expenses, and supporting the centre’s activities.
I also helped organize the election process for the next governing body of the community centre. Following the election, I again served as General Secretary from 2013 to 2014.
Service, Responsibility & Accountability
These experiences taught me the importance of volunteerism, responsible financial management, transparency and accountability. Most importantly, they showed me that strong communities are built when people step forward, work together and serve others.
That same commitment to community service is what I want to bring to Milton and Ward 2.
